Terrorism Whistleblower Receives Death Threats
The following story is reprinted, with permission, from GOVERUP.com.
Earlier this year, Bureau of Prisons employee, Hickmat (Joe) Mansour reported that correspondence from prison inmates to fundamentalist Islamic and terrorist organizations was not being translated as prison policy required. Now, he is the target of death threats that the FBI is investigating , according to a Washington Post article and the Project on Government Oversight.
On Mansour’s behalf, two U.S. senators, Charles Grassley and Charles Schumer, have asked the Bureau to transfer him to a safer location.
In addition to the FBI investigation, an investigation is underway by the Office of Special Counsel into possible retaliation against Mansour by the Bureau. Since raising his concerns, Mansour has been assaulted by a coworker, relieved of his duties as a case manager, and moved from his office to a hallway, writes the Post.
In a news release, POGO comments, “Even by the standards of these dark days when federal bureaucrats have free reign to retaliate against whistleblowers, this is one of the most extraordinary cases we have seen.” The nonprofit organization is asking readers to take action, to thank Senators Grassley and Schumer for their intervention and urge the Bureau of Prisons to approve a transfer for Mr. Mansour.
It’s not often that we get the chance to help save a life by simply writing a letter. Hopefully, GOVERUP readers, too, will lend a hand. To learn more about the case, please visit the POGO website.
(Ditto for Deep Harm readers!)
